Die Skoolhuis used to be the teacher's house with an adjoining classroom which was added circa 1897. It is located on a working citrus farm with a small mountain stream running past it.
The cottage is comfortably furnished and has three bedrooms and a shared bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. Two of the rooms are furnished with double beds and have ceiling fans, while the third room is furnished with a single bed. An additional single bed is located in the entrance hall. All the rooms have oil heaters, linen and towels. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a gas stove and oven, an antique wood burning stove and Cape Dutch baking oven; a microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge-freezer. An iron is also provided and a private braai area is located next to the kitchen. Guests can enjoy their meals in the open-plan dining room or relax in the lounge.
Surrounded by tranquil mountain scenery, there are various walking routes suitable for young and old, and the area also provides 4x4 routes, sightseeing, game viewing and birdwatching. Die Skoolhuis offers an ideal base from which to explore the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area and the scenic Gamtoos River Valley, and various activities such as canoeing and swimming can be enjoyed. |
