Description
Situated between the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg and the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Ashtonvale is a working farm with three magnificent waterfalls on the Lurane River. Enjoy a quality, affordable holiday for the whole family with old-world hospitality.

Originally built as a church of England Mission in 1884, the original small family chapel has recently been restored. This farm has been owned and run by the Hill family for four generations and offers comfortable full board accommodation in en-suite rondavels and cottages. A bed and breakfast option is also available as well as one self-catering cottage sleeping eight people. As there are no electric plug points in the bedrooms a special hair drying room is available for the ladies. It also houses an iron an ironing board for last minute laundry. Fridges are available on the main verandah. A tea and coffee station is available 24 hours a day.

The peaceful mountainous surroundings and three delicious home-cooked meals a day will enable you to relish being away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day living. We can experience four seasons in a day so please bring suitable clothing and good walking shoes. Our sparkling blue swimming pool with paddling pool has the most spectacular views, an ideal spot to play with the kids or enjoy sundowners in the evening.

Young children can enjoy interacting with farm animals and learn to milk a cow. A pony ride is arranged daily for them. There is a small playground with its own tractor and a tuck-shop with sweets and cool drinks. Older children are safe to explore the farm on their own or with their newly-made friends. A cricket match on the front lawn is a common sight on a late summer afternoon.

With accommodation for between 65 and 70 people we are an ideal venue for family gatherings, church outings, sports clubs, wedding receptions, educational excursions for school groups and mini-conferences.

Ashtonvale Guest Farm in Bulwer Reviewed by Slie Ndlela, South Africa on . Dissapointing The place was smelly and had old carpets and cobwebs. Old beds with broken springs. Breakfast inadequate, burnt and expensive. Really had a bad experience.
