Description
Ouma's Villa is a delightful, rambling self-catering home situated in Fourie Street in the historical heart of Heidelberg, the gateway to the Garden Route. Crime-free Heidelberg is an ideal midway stopover on journeys between Cape Town and Knysna and surrounded by wheat fields, is home to South Africa’s national bird, the Blue Crane, and many other endemic bird species.

The home is located within walking distance of a supermarket, several restaurants and coffee shops, the Duivenhoks River, and a quiet public swimming pool. Just five minutes from the villa is the unhurried, manicured Heidelberg Golf Course and a little further afield you can partake in angling in the Breede River, visit the magnificent beaches at Witsand, or take the hiking and bicycle trails of Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve.

The original stables of the Fourie Farm from 1829 form part of the villa and have been restored as accommodation. The main house, built in 1925, is a gracious monument of gleaming wooden floors and lovingly restored antique furniture. Ouma’s Villa comprises six bedrooms and three bathrooms and can accommodate up to twelve guests.

Each bedroom boasts percale linen, quality bath and beach towels, and fan. Sufficient heaters, hot water bottles and a Dover wood stove in the kitchen keep guests warm on chilly evenings. With an emphasis on quiet country living, Ouma's Villa has no TV but provides old fashioned board games and plenty of reading matter to keep you occupied. A fully equipped kitchen includes electric and wood-burning stoves, a large fridge and microwave which make cooking a pleasure. Two large verandahs provide convivial gathering spots or a private space for meditation and contemplation.

A large fully enclosed garden with a variety of fruit trees and vines surrounds Ouma’s Villa and the mews. The garden features a large pond which is home to endangered Clanwilliam Yellow Fish and rare tree frogs, and bird food is supplied for the great variety of birds that visit the garden daily. Large trees provide shade for a hammock or comfy chair, while a private outdoor hot water shower and two barbecue areas complete the picture. Secure off-street parking for up to four vehicles is also supplied.

The villa is rented to only one party at a time, ensuring complete privacy and a sense of country peace. Children and well behaved pets are welcome.

Ouma's Villa in Heidelberg (WC) Reviewed by Cheryl Sargent, South Africa on . Venue was okay, but needs a little TLC <div><br /></div><div>The house is very pleasant, but cold this time of the year - unfortunately the heaters in the bedrooms kept on tripping plugs.  The shower in the one bathroom has a broken door, so water spills out on the floor - and the bathroom door does not close.</div><div>However, house nice and clean, bedding clean and we generally enjoyed the stay.</div>
Ouma's Villa in Heidelberg (WC) Reviewed by Lee-Anne McCallum, South Africa on . Charming home We loved our stay at Ouma's Villa. It was clean and very well equipped and the many antiques resulted in much nostalgia. We'd love to stay there again!
