Description
The Marakele National Park in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains, as its Tswana name suggests, has become a "place of sanctuary" for an impressive variety of wildlife due to its location in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa. Contrasting majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys characterise the park.

Bontle Camping Area Marakele National Park SANParks in Marakele National Park Reviewed by Yvonne Follens, South Africa on . We were a bit disappointed by Marakele National Park. Do not go there and expect to drive to see game. Just go there to relax and do nothing in the bush. This is only a place for resting. We drove for three days and saw very little game. We did not see any of the big five in the three days. We decided to go the main viewpoint. It is a amazing view from the top, we had to use a bathroom, there was no sign posted to say that there was one, after a while we did discover one. What they don't tell you, is that the route is one single narrow road with no barriers. We were stuck when a car came from the top down when we drove up!we had to back up for quite a bit. We stayed at Bontle, it was nice to see the animal at the waterhole. We wanted to see Marakele because it is one of the San Parks, but there is not much there that interest us enough to go back. We will try one of the other parks next time
