Description

Riverview is our main guest lodge and is a lovely old Victorian building in trendy historical Observatory, the student Mecca of Cape Town. During the Victorian era when it was built and named, it did indeed have a view of the Liesbeeck River, but as the suburb developed over the years, we lost the river view. However, we do still have a lovely view of our famous Table Mountain and Devils Peak. We pride ourselves on providing clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation, in a charmingly decorated spacious building, which has a cosy home from home atmosphere. As we specialise in large group bookings and can accommodate up to 120 people, we are ideal for school groups, sports teams, Universities, Technicons, N.G.O.’s, large budget tour groups and school groups. We are on the doorstep of numerous restaurants, shops and pubs, the famous Newlands Rugby and Cricket Stadiums and a great night life in the student heart of Cape Town, while the waterfront, Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, our numerous glorious beaches, the City Centre, C.T. International Airport, and Cape Town’s 2010 Soccer World Cup stadium at Green point are literally just minutes away.

Riverview has 35 rooms, comprising a mix of singles, twins and bunkrooms. We have T.V. Lounges (which groups can use for their exclusive use), and dining rooms. We also have several patios and a barbecue/braai terrace under the palms. The communal Bathrooms are separated into male and female only bathrooms, and our bunkrooms are always ‘same sex’ rooms.

Riverview Lodge in Southern Suburbs Reviewed by Willow Howell, South Africa on . An absolute dump It was possibly the worst and most shocking place I ever stayed over. Besides that nobody knew my booking was for a single room because they did not have a 'booking sheet' with any details of my arrival, I was placed in a dorm room with 3 bunk beds instead of a single room. The walls were dirty and paint chipping off. I smelled of raw gas leaking from somewhere outside. To the closest bathroom, I had to walk trough a TV lounged, where I was told to 'suka' which I very well know what it means. There was no manager or person on duty that I could talk to, to help me in this regard. The bathroom smelled like piss and was dirty. Where the 3 stars came from, heavens only know. The outside area where one could sit was dirty, boxes with old books and a big bag of dirty laundry was on top of the tables. As a matter of fact, I did not even bother unpacking, I immediately had to call somebody to come and fetch me there and to make alternative plans. I was in shock. I will never recommend your 'lodge', not even to my worst enemy.
